Few years ago, during a team building exercise, we were asked to pick a commercial slogan that we felt would best represent each one of us. Without mentioning brands, to this day, I think that the ‘Impossible is nothing’ slogan remains one of the best in the history of advertisement. It is simple but to the point, a few words and yet a whole philosophy behind it. A philosophy I live by every day.
Too many times I have been laughed at for pursuing what seemed to others as crazy unrealistic dreams. And the worst part is that when I questioned and challenged their reaction, no one has ever been able to give me a satisfying answer.
That eventually lead me to the conclusion that some people just accept defeat without ever try first, or worse, they think that having dreams and ambitions is somewhat stupid and a waste of time.
Those individuals get so immerse in their material existence that they become trapped by it. ‘How can I just start over? I have a mortgage a job a family — it’s simply not possible, I am too old, too young, too fat, too sick, too busy!’
Unfortunately a large part of the population can relate to at least one these statements. Individuals who despite being unhappy with their current situation, feels that they cannot do anything to change it. Wrong! Of course they can. It just requires a lot of effort and more important commitment.
No risks no rewards, we all know that.
But people love comfort and fear the unknown. So they rather do nothing and complain about it than take a leap of faith and see what happens.
What they don't know is that you can actually get everything you dream of. You just have to believe it.
If you watch some of the current billionaires’ interviews, you’ll start to notice a recurring element common to all: they all had a vision, a dream and did not stop until their reached it. Had they not had that dream and believe it in it 100% they would not be where they are today.
And most of them started with no money or privileged positions in society so the argument that it must have been somehow easier for them it’s out of the question. They just simply realized that failure or going back where they started were not options so they ignored everyone who doubted or ridiculed them and charged forward.
And that is fundamental because if you let all the non believers and skeptical people out there discouraging you and push you to give up, then you are practically dead.
And that applies to all aspects of life, not just money. Whatever dream it is you have, no matter how big or small, I can't stress enough the importance of believing in it and committing to see it through. What we focus on we attract and despite some people claiming to sell you the secret to success, there are no secrets, it’s just as simple as that: it starts with a vision, grows with focus and commitment and materialize with detachment. This last point is also fundamental because it is only when you trust your dream to be on course to come true and you let go of all fears and anxiety towards its completion that it all comes to be.
It’s all true, tested and proven millions of times, it just works! And this is not coming from some guru or celebrity, this comes from me, the girl next door.
Of course sometime I slip too and have my share of doubts, but in those moments, all I have to do is pause for a second and really pay attention to everything around me, to my life, my circumstances. That’s enough to quiet all my doubts because what’s in front of me is the reality I have created for myself, the fruit of my dreams and commitment. And if I can do it so can everyone else out there.
So please, stop putting those dreams on hold until you are richer, older, wiser, slimmer or whatever excuse it is that it’s holding you down. And most important stop listening to people that discourage you along the way. They have accepted defeat a long time ago. Prove them all wrong, show them that everything is possible. Be their inspiration.
To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go
To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star
This is my quest
To follow that star
No matter how hopeless
No matter how far
To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell
For a heavenly cause
And I know if I'll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest
And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star
